A Bunch O' Stuff

If any of you were wondering if I fell off of the face of the planet, well, I didn't, but I did get a lot done nonetheless. First off, I spent a lot of time editing the pics I took for Verona Grove and also getting to know my spinning wheel.
Here is what I did this week:
This yarn is self striping, as is the one below it. I loved doing these heavy worsted weight skeins, and by the time I started doing the blue and yellow ones it was going very smoothly.

I also dyed some roving yesterday because I ran out of dyed rovings from my previous session.
These two hats were made from the first giant skein of yarn that I spun on the new wheel, and I think they turned out fairly nicely considering the fact that it was my first attempt at spinning on my new wheel.
Last but not least, these are the rest of the yarns that I did this week. The green ones are both from the same roving, and the blue one is my first attempt at spinning a slubby yarn.
Phwew! Can you tell I am addicted?

My New Summer Job

Today I had the pleasure of taking pictures of the guys from Verona Grove, and we had a really good shoot. Their new CD is all about pursuing and living your dreams, a subject close to my heart and mind recently. This summer I have decided not to have a "real job" for the first time in 7 years. I am going to be trying to break even and pay for my essentials with my art and my crafting. I have been doing alright so far, and have a few more photo gigs lined up for this summer. All in all, I am pretty excited!

A Long Post!

First of all, look at what I got on Saturday!
This is my new Louet S-51 DT spinning wheel. I have decided to name the wheel "Bobby" after my wonderful grandfather who with my grandma decided to get me this spinning wheel as an early wedding gift. Just as I started spinning my first skein of yarn my Dad called and told me that my grandfather had had a heart attack. He was doing pretty well today when Nate and I went to visit him, and we've kept him in our thoughts and prayers. I think that the nurses will thoroughly enjoy having him around, he is quite the tease! I think they may also limit him to one Little Debbie per day. :)

So far I've spun 2 skeins of yarn. The first one is a bit lumpy and disheveled, but I'm getting better. Tonight I am working on spinning up some green/yellow/brown roving into some worsted weight singles. I still think I am adding too much twist, so it may be plied into a thicker yarn after I am done.
We also visited D-ville yesterday to do our pre-marriage meetings and also got to catch Nate's little brother play in his praise band, and act in his last performance of, "You Can't Take it with You." He did a wonderful job, and we were glad we got the opportunity to see him.

Yarn Yarn!

I finally got these two skeins of yarn done today, and I thought I would share them. I have named the color-way "Dessert Plains," and it is 100% domestic wool. The bulky skein is 106 yards, and the worsted weight skein is 158 yards.

Also, tomorrow I am going on a mini road trip. Why you ask? Well, that will be revealed in a later post my friends...

I have no patience!

The last few days have been pretty busy around these parts. Nate and I went home for the weekend, and took care of some wedding things while also taking time to celebrate mothers day with the moms. My mom and I went to a Thai restaurant in Madison, and we also got my wedding dress fabric. So far, the running total on the dress is $45, not to bad, eh?
My grandparents were generous enough to get me one of my wedding presents early, so I ordered it in the mail today! I am way too impatient, I hope it gets here soon so I can give you some eye candy!!

A few goodies in the mail.

A couple of days ago I received my awesome order from Stephanie at Spoiled Rotten. She is an amazing bath and body "chemist" and I would strongly recommend her shop!
This is the "booty"

I got this GIANT mug of shaving soap that comes with a shaving brush for Nate, and I can attest that is gives a great lather and a super smooth shave. Plus it smells like peppermint!

Next, I received some lovely handmade soaps with equally tantalizing smells (not to mention they are very eye-appealing)!

And last but not least, this peppermint shea butter is the BEST! I am a bit of a mint-o-phile, and this stuff takes the crown!

I also have some exciting news on the spinning wheel front, and in the realm of school, but more on that later!

Tagged

I've been tagged by epositive to do the lovely "7 things" post :)

The Rules:
--Write 7 random facts/habits about yourself on your blog.
--Tag 7 other people to do the same, and make sure they know it by commenting on their blog and linking back to your blog *I am skipping this rule for now because every person I've looked to tag has already been tagged :)*

So, without further delay,

1. I hate sticking my hand into chip bags when it is less than half way full, so I cut off the sides so I can easily reach in.
2. I haven't eaten wheat in 6 months, and really miss frozen pizza, beer, Jimmy John's subs, and Big Macs.
3. I love running on country roads early in the morning when the air is still damp and cool.
4. I love doing research, but I hate writing papers, I would much rather give a speech.
5. I have been know to start balling while watching extreme home makeover, and sad movies, even if I am watching them for class- for example, Dead Man Walking in my high school English class.
6. I am awful at talking on the phone, and leave terribly long and awkward phone messages.
7. I am a walking thesaurus because of my inability to spell.

In other news, Abby and I showed our crafts and art at Movin' Shoes yesterday night for the Art Walk. We both brought our cameras with intention of capturing the event, but, of course we both forgot to actually take pictures. I sold a few things, but the turnout was a lot worse than what we were expecting. Only about a third of the amount of people that are usually out and about came out this month.
To make up for the missing Art Walk photos, here is one of my recent listings for my store, let me know what you think! :)

I'm a Machine!

I have been working on a TON of stuff the last few days, and thought I would share some pictures of what I've been doing.
These are some of the acid-dyed rovings that I have been working on:I have also been making dozens of polymer and wood hand-painted pendants and beads. I hope to get these listed in my store pretty soon, I am waiting on the availability of Nate's vehicle so I can run to Hobby Lobby and get some stringing materials. I am also contemplating setting up shop for the Art Walk this Saturday, but I don't know if I can get my act together that soon!
